The UNESCO/UNITWIN Chairs Programme was established in 1992 and includes more than 850 institutions in 120 countries. The programme promotes international cooperation among universities and strengthens institutional capacities, knowledge exchange, and collaboration. In its strategy, UNESCO views the network of UNESCO Chairs as an important partner in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
